P4Y – Step 47 – There are those who follow the current, and those who create it

Posted on 20 Febbraio 202620 Febbraio 2026 By Francesco

There are those who follow the current, and those who create it

Reflections on the courage to become yourself again

There are those who follow the current, and those who create it. It’s a sentence that resonates with particular strength in certain moments of life—those moments when you find yourself at a crossroads and must choose: keep swimming where others push you, or return to charting your own course.

In recent months, many people have tried to turn me into someone I’m not. To adapt to the context, to what others wanted to see, because I was supposed to fit into universal parameters. Parameters. What a cold word, isn’t it? As if a life—with all its complexity, its nuances, its unique colors—could be compressed into a formula, into a pre‑printed label.

But I’ve never been a parameter to be labeled. I’ve always been a free agent who built his future through skills—different, yes, but always meaningful in their own way. I’ve built my path like a mosaic: every tile different from the next, yet all necessary to create the full picture of who I am.

And then came the tugging. From right and left. Pull here, push there. Everyone convinced they knew what was best for me. “Do this.” “Don’t do that.” “You should be more…” “You should be less…”

For my own good, they said. Or maybe not—we’ll see. But in the middle of all this deafening noise of unsolicited advice and imposed expectations, I lost something fundamental: my voice.

Then came that moment. That inner click we all know. I decided to go back to being myself. For what I am and what I can do. No excuses, no compromises that betray my essence.

Will it take a long time? Fine.

Will I not be understood right away? Fine.

Because true peace doesn’t come from others’ approval, but from coherence with yourself. And that awareness is worth more than a thousand applause from an audience that doesn’t truly recognize you.

And here comes the surprising part of the story. In the meantime, the satisfactions arrived. Coincidence? Let’s call it that for now. But is it really coincidence when you stop forcing things and let life flow in its natural direction?

Since I changed the story and went back to being who I am, the parameters have changed. And what satisfactions I’m experiencing! Not the kind that come from pleasing others, from being the sweetened, socially acceptable version of yourself. These are deeper, more authentic, more lasting.

They’re the kind of satisfactions you feel in your chest, that make you wake up in the morning with energy, that make you look in the mirror and finally recognize the person reflected back at you.

What have I learned from all this? That the world desperately needs fewer photocopies and more originals. That when you try to fit into a mold that wasn’t made for you, you not only betray yourself—you deprive the world of your unique contribution.

There are those who follow the current and those who create it. And creating the current doesn’t mean being arrogant or disregarding others. It means having the courage to say: “This is my path, and I will walk it with integrity—even if it’s less traveled, even if it’s steeper, even if I’m alone.”

Because it’s often in the solitude of an authentic choice that you find the truest companions. Those who recognize you, appreciate you, and follow you not because you are what they want you to be, but precisely because you are exactly who you are.

I’ll leave you with a few questions—not to give you answers, but to spark your own:

  • In how many areas of your life are you following the current instead of creating it?
  • How many “adapted” versions of yourself have you created to please others?
  • What price are you paying to fit into those “universal parameters”?
  • And what if the greatest satisfaction you’re seeking is on the other side—not in adaptation, but in authenticity?

It’s never too late to return to yourself. It’s never too late to stop following and start creating. It’s never too late to say: “Starting today, I go back to being me.”

The world can wait for you to fit into its parameters.

Or it can witness the birth of something new, authentic, yours.

The choice, as always, is only yours.

Never stop being yourself. Your strength is within you—not in what you are not.
Just to say. CJJ

A destra e sinistra.

Pace.

Se non verrò capito subito? Pace.

Cosi. Per dire. CJJ

My name is Francesco Boschi, originally from Italy and currently based in the United States. For over twenty years, I’ve worked as a manager and consultant across diverse sectors — from education and cultural institutions to the food industry — developing skills in operational management, strategic consulting, and complex problem-solving. In recent years, I’ve combined this experience with a strong passion for software development, creating custom tools designed to simplify workflows and meet real business needs.

Relocating to the U.S. marks the beginning of a new chapter: a personal and professional decision driven by the desire to be close to my son and to embrace new challenges in a different environment. Today, my goal is to turn my experience into meaningful solutions, blending strategic vision with technical expertise to help people and organizations work more effectively.

I enjoy moving between different worlds, adapting tools and approaches to people and contexts. I bring leadership, flexibility, attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a strong problem-solving mindset — along with a deep curiosity to learn and grow. Above all, I believe in sharing: I’m always eager to offer my experience to support the growth of others.
